Hello and welcome!

You’ve heard of a cat cafe, right? They’re all the rage, and rightly so! Way too many cats need homes, so these cafes that also house adorable adoptables that are popping up all over America – and the world – are a very good thing.

Well, My Cat Jeoffry is a slightly different variation on that theme. We are a nonprofit “cat bookstore,” specializing in books for animal lovers – that’s all animal lovers, not just cat fanatics 🙂 Our mission is to get homeless animals adopted and promote compassion and empathy toward animals through literature. We currently are online only but hope to open in brick and mortar form in Spring 2021. We will likely open in Phoenix, AZ. We will partner with a rescue to house wonderful felines up for adoption. So you will be able to browse books and play with the cats! Since we are a nonprofit all proceeds goes back to the animals.

We just got our Bookshop store up and running. Here, you can find our book blog. We review all kinds of books featuring all kinds of animals – from educational nonfiction and literary memoirs to cozy mysteries and romance novels where animals bring their humans together.  Just search under the category you are interested in to find a listing of those genres on our blog. And, to find a companion animal for adoption, please click on the “Rescues” tab up top.

If you are interested in knowing more about our name, please click on the “about” tab.

Thank you so much for stopping by! Enjoy!

About

I am TJ, founder of My Cat Jeoffry Bookstore and Cat Lounge, and I am a lifelong book and animal lover. After living in New York and Los Angeles for many years, working as an attorney, I returned to my native Arizona, where I live with my family, which now includes two dogs and a cat. One of our beloved cats recently passed away. My animals are often featured posing with the books I review here 🙂

I am an author of award-winning women’s fiction and several romance novels, which I publish as Tonya Plank. I am currently working on a series of children’s picture books inspired by my animals, as well as a cozy mystery series featuring a cat and dog sleuth team.

As an English major, I fell in love with Christopher Smart’s ode to his cat, Jeoffry, from his poem Jubilate Agno.  Smart was a well-known figure in 18th Century London and I love that one of his nicknames was Kitty Smart 😀 The poem describes so many cats I’ve known to a tee, and to me it says that animals reflect divine beauty in the world just by being their natural selves.  I thought a piece of literature so masterfully detailing the awesomeness of cats would be fitting for a “cat bookstore” 🙂
